My FW12 came today as well. It’s been appropriately sticker bombed.
First Impressions
The FW12 went together so easily that I expect to have no trouble talking small kids through it in the future. It feels very tough for as small as it is. I’m really pleased that the bumpers aren’t sticky or squidgy as I’d feared they might be.
I threw Fedora on here to start with, just so I can see how the touchscreen and stylus input are with a set-up that’s made for them. They perform flawlessly. Fedora is annoying me less than I expected, but I’m still unsure whether I’ll keep it long term.
The screen is lovely. The keyboard is more usable than I expected at this laptop’s small size. The performance is more than adequate for the web browsing, writing, light gaming, and such that I’ll do on it. My only disappointment was battery life. I could be running a much lighter distro, but still, it’s good enough to get by, not great.
Future Plans
I plan to keep putting this little guy through his paces. I hope that it’ll hold up as a toy, travel companion, and tablet replacement for me. If so, my mom’s next computer will be a FW12; she struggles switching between her tablet and laptop so a 2-in-1 may be just the ticket. I may also look at FW12s for some of the kids in my life.
