Would it be your first trial to use Linux for your daily drive?

Hi june, yes. I have a steam deck and used the os a bit to install my emulators and i liked the feel of it. Also the amount of access that you get to all the programs an seeing how they where coded is really cool. Those where the main reasons why i wanted to try linux in the first place. I used to work ocasionally on a machine running ubuntu. But there i just used whats in front of me without changing anything.

I was in your situation before I got FW13, and linux experience in this machine so far is really satisfying! I used Ubuntu in my workplace and that was all. So I’m sure fw12 has decent compatibility with linux distros mentioned in the guide page

Looking forward to batch 7 shipping. Anyone else planning on installing bazzite? I’ve never run it before but looks pretty sweet. Thinking Gnome for a better touch experience, but just getting that from research, and IRL experience or KDE Vs Gnome in terms of using it on a touchscreen?

@Jack03 - I’d say just do it and see how you go. Easy enough to go back if it’s not for you and we’re past the point now where Linux is just for hobbyists.

I would love to run Mint because it’s my daily driver, but it seems like tablet mode doesn’t work with it. If I can’t make mint run, my next runner-up is Bazzite because it all works out of the box. :]

As much as I love KDE it seems like Gnome would be more touch friendly, everything is huge and easy to hit with a finger, and it just feels like a tablet interface already.

Hello Guys, after batch 6 is getting mails, it seems like we are the next ones. Excited. First FW ever, read the cracking issue threads and praying for not getting one of these.

Hopefully the FW will be the end of my windows journey and the beginning of my Linux experience.

I am waiting for a i5 32GB RAM 512 GB ROM in sage. Im excited.

Yeah I’m excited that we’re next too but I’m also really worried about the cracking issues. Kind of second guessing myself now about just cancelling for now until they get it worked out, I already bought like a drive and ram in advance for it :sob: too. Not sure what to do, was really looking forward to it.

Same with the drive, at least; gonna get it anyway, just because I support the mission, but still kinda worried…

If it helps at all, it appears (to me) like the cracking is an issue with the manufacturing process and units that are affected will likely show (if you are looking) within 2-4 weeks of normal use. Worst case is FrameWork replaces the device

I’m also in Batch 7, Sage DIY

Hoping the cracking isn’t an issue, as I’d rather not have to return and replace it, but I guess we’ll see.

If they ship batch 6 this week, its possible they ship this batch the last week of august. It’s unfortunate that all communication i can find only refers to ‘batch 3-6’ or earlier, and they havent updated batch 7 to the month, but oh well it should work out just fine.

So I’m Batch 6, FW12 shipped Friday from Taiwan, currently in the UK

Oh, awesome!

Does anyone know how long it typically takes between batches? And how long it takes to arrive in the US (esp. central/midwest) after being notified it’s shipping?

I’m moving Sept. 1st and tryna figure out which address to have it ship to lol

My guess is that you will receive this week a preparing to ship email with a cut-off date, unless they hit a pause on shipments.

it took 4 days between batches 3-6 but they said they will prioritize batches 3-6 first so it may take more than 4 days this time. but i agree that we most probably will get preparing mail this week.
