This is the third time I am updating chipset drivers via AMD software installer.
Third time the same problem happens, for some reason, laptop is stuck at low power state where CPU is not pushing more than 1500mhz and fans are not kicking in, and laptop is burning to touch.
I think this has something to do with plugging- unplugging often, for some reason drivers and windows can not communicate in my opinion, but what about fan not kicking in?
Now if I launch a game, or run cinebench, results/fps is half than it should be, and the only solution is to restart the laptop.
However, if I update chipset drivers via AMD software, problem completely vanishes.
Bios is up to date 3.16 and all settings are just default(except vram allocation).
I do believe that FW chipset drivers should be more optimized than generic AMD, but this problem persists and I don’t know what is causing this.
Any updates? I am reading about additional freeizng/bsod issues that are cropping up with 7040 and Linux (and windows) on this site. Many users have had laptops for > year before issues started.
Makes me wonder if I should just pull the trigger on the core ultra vs 7040 for my use case.
I got answer from support as “its good to know that you have fixed the problem, thank you for contacting us.”
I am sure it was automated and nobody actually read it.
And then they sent another email immidiately asking to feedback their support “ did we do good?”. Unfortunately you did not do anything :D, but nevermind. They helped me in the past, so can’t complain.
For your question, the board runs perfectly fine, but only on latest drivers, not on drivers that is mandatory by framework to use on.
Sorry for the follow-up, perhaps I didn’t read properly. Which generic amd update are you using? Is this an amd released BIOS, if so what version number? Thanks!
Bios updated to latest recently. 3.16 and problem persisted with this bios update too.
If I install drivers via framework driver bundle, then the problem i described starts happening. They have 1 year older chipset drivers than public ones, and some months older GPU drivers.
Whenever I update chipset drivers via AMD website or AMD software installer app, the problem vanishes. (12th september 2025 variants)
