So my problem is pretty simple. I have fedora 44 installed as my desktop, I Installed some updates with the terminal, I rebooted, and the computer installed bios 4.04 from bios 4.03. It completed successfully from what I could see, and booted back into fedora 44. After I logged back into the desktop, the screen artifacted twice in the very center, then the whole computer turned off. I have not been able to turn it back on since.
I have tried:
Unplugging the board power connector and replugging it back in.
Resetting the mainboard state with the chassis intrusion switch.
Unplugging the gpu and trying to boot without that.
Cleaning and reseating both the powwr and gpu connectors multiple times with IPA.
Switching each ram stick into each slot and booting like that.
And nothing has worked so I am currently at a bit of a loss for easy troubleshooting methods.
Is my board simply dead, or is this a known problem. I simply have not found a fix for?
EDIT: My board still has the original liquid metal on it, if that was an imminent issue. I recieved the ptm replacement but havent installed it because I dont have the confidence to replace it and was advised to simply leave it alone if it wasnt causing issues
If the OS managed to boot at least once after the bios update. The problem is not bios related.
I expect the hardware has failed.
Try power on, wait a few minutes and see if you get any led flashing on the side led. The flashing pattern normally gives an idea what is wrong.
Ok so update after almost 2 months. I was gonna do an rma request after I made this post but i got busy immediately after and forgot, but I went to make an rma request a couple hours ago.
I had mostly filled it out, and as I was going to record a video of how it doesn’t work, it started lighting up with the diagnostic LEDs again.
I spent an hour or so taking it apart, reseating connectors and cleaning contacts and replacing the ram and ssd that I had taken out, and each thing got me a little bit closer to booting, and now it boots up absolutely fine with no artifacts or anything.
So I guess if you have these kinds of issues with your framework 16 7040 series, the best way to fix it is to ignore it and use a backup computer for 2 months. Great troubleshooting tip!
