Fw16 primary SSD screw stripped

Hi everyone,

I’ve seen similar topics in the past. I’ll start by saying that I’ve already contacted support and am awaiting their first response. Despite this, I wanted to post in case there was a known solution.

The primary SSD was only installed; I never unscrewed the screw after the initial assembly, which I don’t recall having any problems with, as the screw had reached its limit. Now I’ve purchased a secondary SSD to add, but I’ve had to give up because I couldn’t find a way to apply enough torque to unscrew the screw. While this would have been a good point, it didn’t solve the problem of the screw being unusable anyway.

I’ve read previous topics, but none of them clearly indicated a solution other than a complete system replacement, which doesn’t mean I’ll have to remove the SSD anyway

Best regards

I’ve added a couple of photos, the motherboard is from a Ryzen 7 7840HS Gen2

I have had a similar issue before because i was “over tightening” the screws. I purchased a completely new set of screw kit from FrameWork and replaced them all and now I make sure I do not over tighten anything…(hard habit to break though!)

anyway, back to your question see if this helps. I had to use it and was able to get it loose, but it was a struggle. It may work or it may not work for you!

Yes it is not easy but I was able to with a lot of patience. Good luck hopefully it will work for you too!

I used something (non conductive) to put under the screw head and prise the screw up while I slowly unscrewed the screw.

May also work by using a spudger underneath the very end of the SSD, as close to screw as possible, while undoing the screw.

Or doesn’t these ways work?

Would this sort of tool help?

Pliers curved specifically to help remove screws.

Hi James,

I bought something similar, should arrive next week

The space available to apply the torque is limited, so this pliers shape seems the one suit the best for the screw ssd nvme position.

If I’ll give a feedback will mean that I succeed :smiling_face_with_tear:

Hello,

the Japanese Screw Removal Pliers Won!

As you can imagine, the screw didn’t even reach the first knurling, but I managed to get it to grip, and by turning it a few degrees at a time, I was able to remove it. In the meantime, I had also purchased a set of replacement screws from the Framework shop, which were a godsend.

The little b***h!

In any case thanks all for the support!

If anyone needs this method, it works!

Best regards
