for reference, here is the config I am running: Framework | Configure Framework Laptop 16 DIY Edition (AMD Ryzen™ 7040
let me preface this with saying that i recently switched over to the fw 16 after running on a 16gb ram GTX 1660 with an i5-1300. I got my framework and assembled it about a week ago at this point and at first I had to do a bit of troubleshooting to get it to properly switch to the dGPU from the one built in to the CPU. I had thought I had fixed those and it was running games just fine (50 or so FPS on helldivers 2 on medium settings and 30 on BG3 on ultra) for a bit but two days ago it decided it didn’t want to do that and just stopped running games properly. for example, on titanfall 2, a game my previous laptop with objectively worse specs runs at a stable 50-60 on max settings, I have been getting 22, with horrific stuttering that makes the game unplayable. on the AMD software, I am using HYPR-RX but when i swap over to quality I get similar results. I have tried disabling the iGPU in the device manager but then my fps drops to about 3 in most games. I doubt that it is a wattage issue as I am using the official framework 180w power brick. I am at my wits end and feel like I have tried everything. $2500 to drop on a new laptop is a lot of money for me and I feel like I am close to giving up. I feel like I have spent more time troubleshooting and fixing things than I have actually spent using my computer. if it helps at all I used my old laptops 500 GB NVME drive with all the stuff on it as the primary drive so I wouldn’t have to go through the trouble of getting a new copy of windows or moving all my files
linked here is some example gameplay of titanfall 2 (which is almost a decade old fml)
Regarding your config, first mistake is using on only 32Gb RAM module. Bank interleave won’t run making it slower. But that shouldn’t be the issue.
Have you make a benchmark/Burn-in test? First thing that I do.
Have it run at max performance, all CPU cores and GPU, for at least 4 hours.
If it is stable, I keep it. If it is not, I try to figure out which component failed, if that is not possible, I send the lot back.
Note that the builtin GPU is able to play titanfall quite nice.
I also played Cyberpunk under Steam/Linux with around 25 FPS. So something else is amiss here.
those were my general thoughts. any benchmark recommendations?
For the CPU and RAM, I used stress … :}
For the dGPU - there are various tools they mentioned in the forums.
two things, i assume just running a game in the background is good enough stress? and also, what should i be looking for in this benchmark/ what is the purpose of it? Additionally, when i swap from minimum settings to Ultra in helldivers, i only get an fps difference of 3 (from 14 to 11 on the super destroyer) or so which leads me to believe its not a GPU error
so a weird thing happened, i disabled and then reneabled my iGPU in device manager and now i am getting a stable 45 fps on HD2 on ultra settings. lets see if this lasts lol
after playing hd2 for about 2 hours and then i left for lunch but when i came back it is back to running at 15 fps even after messing around in device manager. i have also been getting random spikes in gpu usage when my computer is just using a web browser. here is a screenshot of the taskmanager graph
so, when i try to stress the system (hd2 on max graphics settings) my game runs like shit. but when i look at the performance charts on taskmanager i dont see the system under stress. i see a spike in GPU usage when i first launch the game but that then fades off and the chart looks like this.
but despite there being significantly more recourses available, the game refuses to use them.
To verify the cpu and gpu stress, and cpu core temperatures, check the amdgpu_top program.
It gives you all details on the used GPU and CPU + temperatures.
Below example, as I removed the dGPU because I needed the extra disks to work on some videos shows it does nothing.
Note that games do not always use the CPU a lot. So use the little program called “stress” for testing the CPU. Use the memory benchmark in the UEFI boot menu for testing the RAM.
thank you so much for helping me with this MY KING. im probably going to go to bed but will report back in the morning

sorry for the late response but i dont think it is a cpu thing at all. i couldnt get the amdgpu thing to work (my brain is simply too smooth. the big words simply slide right off) but i have submitted a support ticket as well. i couldnt recreate the thing where is spontaneously started working yesterday but even on different game settings (cyberpunk, high settings and low settings) i get about the same level of stuttering and fps. i find this observation interesitng.
but i have no idea what it signifies
so i found an issue. cinebench wont register my 7700 when i disable my 780M in device manager. here is a screenshot.
yeah. Seems you’re using the builtin GPU which is already not bad.
You sure the 7700 device works?
Let’s wait for the support team to respond.
