Hello,
I’m experiencing a reproducible graphics issue on my Framework Laptop 16 (Ryzen 9 7940HS + Radeon RX 7700S Expansion Bay).
System information:
- Framework Laptop 16 (Ryzen 7040 Series)
- Ryzen 9 7940HS
- Radeon RX 7700S + Radeon 780M
- BIOS 03.05
- Windows 11 Pro 25H2
- AMD Adrenalin 26.6.4
- Graphics driver 32.0.31021.5001
Problem:
While playing games such as V Rising, if the game is left idle for approximately 1–2 minutes, Windows plays the device connect/disconnect chime, the screen immediately goes black, and the system becomes unresponsive. Game audio often continues playing in the background, but the display never returns and I must hold the power button to reboot.
Reliability Monitor consistently reports:
- LiveKernelEvent Code 1a8
- Hardware error
- UnityCrashHandler64.exe stopped working
- V Rising stopped working
The issue is reproducible.
Troubleshooting already performed:
- Disabled Radeon Chill
- Disabled SmartShift Eco
- Forced V Rising to use the RX 7700S
- Disabled PCIe Link State Power Management in Windows
- Disabled PCIe Dynamic Link Power Management in BIOS
- Reinstalled AMD drivers
- Cleared shader cache
- Reinstalled the game
None of these resolved the issue.
Could this be a known issue with the RX 7700S Expansion Bay, hybrid graphics, or the current AMD driver? Are there newer BIOS, firmware, or driver recommendations for this issue?
Thank you.
