graphics issue on my Framework Laptop 16

Hello,

I’m experiencing a reproducible graphics issue on my Framework Laptop 16 (Ryzen 9 7940HS + Radeon RX 7700S Expansion Bay).

System information:

  • Framework Laptop 16 (Ryzen 7040 Series)
  • Ryzen 9 7940HS
  • Radeon RX 7700S + Radeon 780M
  • BIOS 03.05
  • Windows 11 Pro 25H2
  • AMD Adrenalin 26.6.4
  • Graphics driver 32.0.31021.5001

Problem:
While playing games such as V Rising, if the game is left idle for approximately 1–2 minutes, Windows plays the device connect/disconnect chime, the screen immediately goes black, and the system becomes unresponsive. Game audio often continues playing in the background, but the display never returns and I must hold the power button to reboot.

Reliability Monitor consistently reports:

  • LiveKernelEvent Code 1a8
  • Hardware error
  • UnityCrashHandler64.exe stopped working
  • V Rising stopped working

The issue is reproducible.

Troubleshooting already performed:

  • Disabled Radeon Chill
  • Disabled SmartShift Eco
  • Forced V Rising to use the RX 7700S
  • Disabled PCIe Link State Power Management in Windows
  • Disabled PCIe Dynamic Link Power Management in BIOS
  • Reinstalled AMD drivers
  • Cleared shader cache
  • Reinstalled the game

None of these resolved the issue.

Could this be a known issue with the RX 7700S Expansion Bay, hybrid graphics, or the current AMD driver? Are there newer BIOS, firmware, or driver recommendations for this issue?

Thank you.

There is certainly a BIOS update.

There might be some driver updates in there as well.
