So, I have used now for about 6 months or more, as a daily driver, mostly programming and browsing. My biggest sadness is the heat it produces, especially in the back-plane. Makes you not want to use it on the go. The fan goes off often and load (naturally, because of heat). Not like crazy, but enough to be annoying. Coming from years of thinkpads, very quit compared to framework and also repairable and such.

Anyway, I suspect this is a design issue. I have a vague memory of reading something about phase-loop cooling or something, they were going to change something. If I upgrade to a new motherboard (not AI), would i benefit from that?

Any hardware hacks to be done? Add a fan, maybe drill some holes? Anyone done something like that?

I have not played with settings for PPD, but I suspect it is just the nature of the design. They released badly designed laptop from a cooling perspective. Many others do as well. Anyway, if anyone has any hacks, tips or tricks, I would like to hear it.

Okay, so what’s the heat problem? What’s going on?
