How are y'all customizing your RGB keyboards / keypads (especially per-key)?

Howdy y’all! I’ve owned my fw16 for almost a year now, and I like it quite a lot! The size is definitely a little tough to contend with, but all in all, it’s been a spectacular companion.

I purchased mine with the RGB Clear keyboard and the RGB Clear macropad, and while I’ve liked the aesthetic a lot, I’ve struggled with customizing them! I originally intended to set up custom colors for every key per-layer to indicate what they do, but it’s turned out to be harder than I initially thought.

I’ve experimented a bit with the OpenRGB setups others have posted in this forum, and saw @Cory_Galloway’s excellent thread about how he handled it: How to get to point you can have per key RGB control for keyboard and macropad? - #2 by MJ1

I was wondering if anyone else has experimented with this, or had a functional configuration that worked for them where per-key per-layer coloring is working for them!

Thanks in advance for your time

for the keyboard i provided a link to the first version that i showed in the vids. although i did not provide the macropad or the numpad firmwares. after i talked with a bunch of folks wanting different things, instead of creating a new firmware .uf2 file for each person i decided to create the ultimate configuration tool. since everyone needs different setups i am working on making a streamlined firmware with a companion program that will interact with the keyboard or other input devices that are official Framework products and allows to change colors or actions of each key or create macros or combo keys and per-layer changes where you can have combinations of static colors and animations per key so you can have the alphanumeric keys being animated while the other keys are static color. each key will be able to have its own animation if you prefer. i am trying to have what the keyboard configuration site has and VIAL but expand upon so that users will never need to learn coding to create a full per-layer per-key setup. it has just been taking me a while but i am still working on it. oh and making the animations from different input sources to be synced so the keyboard and macropad look as if they are one source. the same thing for the white led only keyboards and numpads. so this will be useful to all Framework laptops and input sources.

that’s awesome! if you’re interested in contributions, i’d be interested in potentially contributing and/or alpha testing.

I bought the RGB Clear ANSI and the Macropad together with Keyboard Stickers from keyshorts as i wanted an RGB Keyboard, with my German Layout. I modified the Layers to get the missing Keys i need from my ISO Layout ( espacially the <>| ) and i switched the Right ALT to be a secondary FN Key for the Special Key Layer and for RGB Control switched to the F-Key Row. And i love the Solid Reactive Lighting Effect

okay and i have to admit, i switched my Right Ctrl Key to be a Copilot Key, for testing and trying around with Copilot Features ( ALT+Spacebar as a Makro are the Copilot Key)
