How would y'all rate your experience with the 5070 module? Might get one soon

Hi everyone! I’ve been planning to sell my desktop and use the money for a 5070 module but I just want some reviews first. I don’t really use my desktop anymore since most of my stuff is on my FW16 with school and all, so I decided I want to sell it. I have a friend willing to buy it for 1k so it’ll easily cover the cost of the module. The desktop has a 7700X and a 3070 (only about 5% faster than the mobile 5070). I see this move as a win since I’m getting newer hardware with more features like DLSS 4. I’m also just fed up with the driver stability of my 7700S. One more thing I wanna address in advance is 8GB of VRAM is enough for me. I’ve only ever maxed out 8GB of VRAM with Minecraft distant horizons and shaders, don’t really play many AAA games either.

I would also be interested to hear

I like to know how people are using the 5070, what type of workloads and Windows or Linux and other experiences.

Please share something

I’ve used both the Radeon RX 7700S and the 8GB GeForce RTX 5070. I can definitely say that the latter lead to a huge performance improvement in games and multitasking.

However, I’ve still sometimes run into situations where games would drop in performance, which I’m suspecting may be due to the VRAM. So, I’m planning to upgrade to the 12GB 5070 that’s coming soon.

It’s pricey, due to the memory issues going on right now… so whether or not 4 GB more VRAM is worth it to you… is up to you. Plus, the cost of the 8 GB 5070 is likely to go up once they’re through with their current stock.

I’m currently on Windows 11, but an considering switching to Linux once some games I play are made compatible.

5070 is a great module!

Have you ever experienced any driver stability issues with your 7700S? And if you did where they fixed when you switched to the 5070?

Yeah, I had downgraded my Ryzen & Radeon drivers to an older package provided by Framework (the 2024_10_02 bundle, I believe), because newer bundles (or updating through AMD Adrenalin Edition) resulted in significant performance loss.

Upon replacing the Ryzen 9 7940HS and Radeon 7700S with the Ryzen AI HX 370 and GeForce RTX 5070, everything just felt like it was running much better.

However, I made the mistake again of letting AMD Adrenalin update my drivers, and once again found it performing worse (even crashed a few times). I downgraded back to the drivers from the latest Framework bundle (2025_12_16), and things are running better.

I don’t know if this is a general issue with AMD, or specifically with Framework, but it seems like driver updates from AMD are really hit-or-miss. Meanwhile, I’ve been updating the RTX drivers through the Nvidia application and have run into no issues (yet). I almost want an Intel board for FW16 due to this… but don’t like the idea of paying Intel prices…

Do you have to use the driver bundle drivers for the 5070 or does just using the latest one work?

I haven’t had any issues (so far) updating to the latest GeForce drivers through the Nvidia application.

That’s promising and exactly what I wanted to hear about upgrading to the 5070 lol. Yeah the 7700S I’m on has bad driver stability, especially on the 26.3.1 version.

This. Framework has said as much. That as soon as their current inventory runs out, increased costs will require that they pass it along.

Anyone who needs or wants a graphic module, get it while you can. At current prices at least.
