With the recent articles online regarding the RTX5070 12GB mobile SKU, will we see these as a module? I would love to see this SKU in the framework 16. 8GB of VRAM is limiting in a lot of games nowadays and whilst the 5070 8GB isn’t a bad performer, an option for more VRAM would be nice

We have no idea. Framework has had a great track record so far of being relatively difficult to predict.
They are aware of the desire for more vram.
I’d say it’s possible, as being a 5070 sku means it wouldn’t run into the issues I’ve mentioned in other similar threads, such as power budget… but again, we’ve no idea.
I also read that people spotted a refresh of the rtx 5070 with more vram. Im planning on getting a framework 16 in a couple of months but without the current available the rtx card. They do not communicate future products but I hope they will release a card with more vram, at least 12 gb.
Worst case since apparently firmware for 12gb models exist you could have someone swap the ram chips for bigger ones at one point like they do with 3090s.
What do you mean? People are modding 3090’s above 24GB?
Yeah there is a whole market for putting double density ram chips on 3090s and stuff.

At this point the ram chips are probably more expensive than the rest of the card XD

$500 for +4GB of VRAM when base 8GB is $699 is a bit crazy and also doesn’t make sense at all.
They just had to do it to me literally the exact day my 5070-8GB FW16 came in…
The price is… a bit much. However, I’m well aware of the current RAM issues.
Though, if they could somehow slash the price by a couple hundred dollars, that would be swell.

Say thank you to Nvidia and to LLM and image generation and video generation AI hype 
I still low-key hate NVIDIA as a company, but I’m still considering pre-ordering that one just because of the VRAM upgrade. 8GB is on the lower edge of usability for some high-end games these days; 12GB is a nice little bit of future-proofing.

I checked local vendors and in my region just 30% more gets you a laptop with a 12GB 5070Ti on board.
I’ll wait until it’s generally available - that’s for sure.
I feel the same way.
But it is what I was looking for. Feels bad to pay OpenAI tax but so be it.

I believe Framework has a 30-day return period. If you really need those 12GB of ram.
