It is great. It is even a smaller than expected. I can’t believe how much horsepower for such a small box. My only disappointment is 5Gbe for Ethernet and another mediatek wifi adapter (easy fix, put in an intel). For the most part I am well pleased. Fedora 42 KDE installed easily. I replaced a full size desktop with a 5950X and 64GB of RAM. The AI MAX is slightly faster in raw throughput and that desktop has no USB 4, or Thunderbolt. At 128GB and 16TB of NVMe, it is a power house in a tiny box. Would recommend.
Any recs you might have on particular wifi adapters that work? Just took a quick look on newegg only to see that many of the intel wifi are only compatible with “intel based laptops”. Tbh i’m not too familiar with replacing these modules ![]()
Also Intel wifi adapters got battery drain problem on FW laptops see here.
Mediatek is generally more Linux friendly (e.g. OpenWRT support).
These are the reasons why I’m staying away from intel.
thank you!!
Very informative. Tbh, if I don’t have to replace the wifi adapter, I def don’t want to haha. But if there’s something “better” out there, I’m always a little curious!
These days the options are MediaTek, Qualcomm, Intel and Broadcom.
MediaTek got teething problems with their drivers so I can understand why people don’t like them. But the drivers will gradually become better.
Broadcom is not Linux friendly with their drivers.
I use the Intel AX210 in my 16 and desktop. It is only Wifi 6, I have heard the BE200 is Wifi 7 and should work just fine as well.
I had a TERRIBLE time with the Mediatek in my Frame16 on Kubuntu.
The BE200 does NOT work with AMD CPUs.
At least not the ones framework uses.
Thank for the reminder, I totally forgot about this. I am using a AX210, but I ordered a BE200 to experiment with. I need to go find it and report back. ![]()
I am 99.9% sure it’ll just not post
