If you could make only 1 change to the Framework Laptop, what would it be?

Blue bezel.

Iā€™m pretty sure that when people say they want an ā€œARM-Powered Mainboardā€ very few of them actually care about it being ARM.

What they really mean is they want a third CPU vendor option that is viable for day to day usage, competitive with the current CPU options, and has better battery life.

RISC-V is a long way from being viable for day to day usage and also a long way from being competitive with the current options. Intel and AMD are the only vendors of X86 CPUs. So that just leaves ARM based solutions (mainly the Snapdragon X Elite for the time being).

Iā€™d really like an OLED screen option, as i often use my FW in the dark & the minimum brightness is still quite bright.

The problem with ARM processors is unfortunately still, that there are no standardized BIOS or UEFI implementations for them. So you often end up with a locked BIOS from the vendor or something similar.
I think this is one of the reasons, that is holding Framework back from developing an ARM mainboard.

you can use the AMD dashboard to turn down the ā€¦ contrast.
The brightness slider donā€™t work as great.

Yeah I wish the backlight driver has a bit more range.

One concern I have with OLED panels on laptops is that they may not work as well with matte panels as they may cause bloom or dilute the darker darks compared to a glossy panel. Maybe someone can let me know if this is a completely unfounded concern based entirely on incorrect assumptions, or if this is an actual issue some may encounter (even if its not to the same degree I envision).

I prefer to sit near to a window when at home or at school, and as a result the glare from a normal gloss panel tends to be something that I am more sensitive to. I even held off purchasing a FW 13 until a matte display was available (and until AMD was available, lol)

The ideal panel for me would be a gloss OLED panel utilizing whatever magic technology Samsung has implemented on the S24 series because the reflection reduction on those phones really is something otherworldly.

Seriously. An input-cover kit with a 7-row keyboard would be huge, Iā€™d buy it immediately.

I just bought a FW13 anyway, because most other things about it are what Iā€™m looking for, and I have to put my money where my mouth is even if it means settling for the least-worst option. Iā€™m on my first day of daily-driving it, and the lack of dedicated PgUp/PgDn huuuuuuurts. I hadnā€™t appreciated how much Ctrl-Shift-Pgup/dn was part of my tab-arranging behavior until I had to figure out mashing Fn at the same time to make it work. Iā€™ll survive, butā€¦ why?

But the cool thing is, if a 7-row keyboard comes out, I can just sell my old one on the marketplace, it wonā€™t be wasted. So itā€™s still better than the alternatives. Nobody else even has the concept of swappable keyboards, so I think Iā€™m in the right place, even if it doesnā€™t exist yet.

(The other weird keyboard thing that keeps biting me, is the F-keys are stretched rightwards quite a bit. Iā€™m used to F4 being above 4 or slightly left of it, but here F4 is slightly right of it, because Esc is bizarrely wide, and thereā€™s nothing between F12 and Delete, which shifts the whole F-row right. Iā€™ve been hitting Alt-F3 all morning and wondering why my windows donā€™t closeā€¦ So yeah, a more-Thinkpad-esque 7-row keyboard would be big.)

I wish we had PgUp/PgDn too. If youā€™re on Linux, you could at least setup a shortcut that is easier than reaching the Fn key. [SOLVED] No Page Up/Page Downā€½ā€½ - #16 by MJ1 It should be possible on windows too. I donā€™t recall if there is a windows method in that thread as well.

Iā€™d still vote for Trackpoint every time, but if there was something else, I think Iā€™d change the chassis for something a bit more to my liking. I donā€™t really love the Macbook air aesthetic with the wide bevels on the bottom edge and would prefer something sleek, but a little chunkier like a Macbook Pro, Thinkpad x13, etc. This is mostly because I simply prefer the shape, but if this chassis could fit all the existing components, and also had a little extra room for some special components like extended battery, internal storage or something else along those lines it would be awesome.

I donā€™t care too much about a touch screen, but I would really like to have a 360Ā° hinge on the Framework 13. When using external screen, mouse and keyboard you can fold the keyboard away saving quite some desk space for a much nicer setup.

Haptic Trackpad (FW13)
Currently, the trackpad makes the FW13 feel cheap compared to any current generation MacBook.
