I’ve been using the laptop for about 3 months now but I have one issue that has been driving me crazy. When I let the laptop sit for a couple of hours the machine will go into a deep sleep mode and when I open it I have to press the power button and it takes me to the Framework logo and then the windows log in screen pops up. Most of the time I can log in and resume my progress but about 1/10 times windows crashes and I have to reopen all of my programs with a fresh boot.
My graphics drivers are up to date downloaded from the AMD site and I reinstalled the BIOS driver and the bundle of drivers from the framework website. Could this be an issues with windows modern standby? I am running Windows 11.
I feel like I’ve tried everything and the problem still persists, I was wondering if anyone else had this problem.
You can go into your power settings and disable the laptop from going into hibernation or suspend. This will prevent that happening. Why you are having failed hibernation sessions 1 out 10 times, I can’t speak to. Are you using a NVME drive that was provided by Framework?
Yes, the drive is straight from framework.
You can go into your power settings and disable the laptop from going into hibernation or suspend.
Ideally I would like to close the laptop lid and have the computer go to sleep so it won’t get hot in a backpack.
Heres a link to the windows sleep study.
During standby this is possible, but for the best chances of Windows not causing a cooked laptop, you would use hibernation.
Your sleep study shows typical behavior for a S0 enabled laptop. S0 stands for Modern Standby. It basically is a low power state that allows the computer to still do things, like run updates.
If possible (I say this because I only have Intel based Framework mainboards) I would switch to S3 if AMD supports it.
Under S0 it will sleep until 5% of your battery has been used, where it will then hibernate. Using S3 wont do this. It will sleep until the battery is dead.
Hibernation is really the ticket here. That is what I recommend using.
