Is a "Pro" version likely for the Laptop 12?

Hi, I found out about framework through the 13 pro reveal trailer and I am really impressed! It’s incredible, and is also Linux-first?! I want to buy a new laptop in a few months, which is powerful, yet small enough to take on travels and this really seems like a near-perfect fit.
However, I need a laptop that can be used for designing as well. I then found the framework 12 laptop and I really like that one, since it has a 360° hinge, stylus support and fun colors. The problem is, the battery life obviously isn’t nearly as good as the 13 pro’s.
That’s why I wanted to ask: is it likely that in the near future there’ll be a pro version for the framework 12, similar to the 13 pro? So, better battery life (would be really good when traveling), enhanced audio experience, better display and chassis - basically, a mix between a designer and power-user laptop. Or is that unlikely and I should just buy a normal framework 12 laptop?

Welcome to the community!

Framework never reveals their “roadmap” ahead of time. They don’t typically reveal things until they are nearly ready.

With that said, I seriously doubt there will be a redesign/refresh of the Framework 12 any time soon. It has been out for less than a year. I would guess any change or announcement of an upcoming change would likely be much later in the year, if it happens at all. And I doubt it would be a dramatic change, like the 13 Pro. If anything, they may announce new processor options at some point this year. That could still end up improving battery life and/or performance. But I suspect it will be a while, if it even happens this year.

Again, this is just my speculation. But I bet if new processor options where anywhere near ready for the Framework 12, they would have announced them at the recent event.

Or maybe a mayor redesign of the casing in order to reliably eliminate the cracking issues. Unless the current batches already are there, that is.

i hope they release a keyboard in the blue colorway id love to match the rest of my build

I’m sure they will apply some stuff they build for the Pro to the Framework 12 in the future.

I think most likely we will see:

  • A more modern Intel processor with probably a lower speed than the 13 Pro, but with similar battery life and with LPCAMM support probably.
  • A redesigned case to get rid of the cracking issues with either a stiffer internal metal structure or a different plastic composition, maybe in new colors.

I hope we will see, but less likely:

  • A better screen with at least 100% sRGB support
  • A backlight keyboard
  • A fingerprint reader
  • New speakers and audio board
  • A haptic touchpad

But I would expect than at the Start of 2027 earliest maybe.

Yeah, I hope we’ll get those options in the future. That’d be such a good laptop.
I didn’t even know the screen doesn’t have full sRGB support- I assumed that since it has stylus support, etc… that it’s basically a computer for designers and the colors would be good.

Afraid it was not aimed for designers or artists. It seems originally it was intended for the education market and kids. There has been much wider interest than FW intially expected.
