Is EGPU for Framework 13 (Ryzen AI 300) possible?

Hi all,

I am wondering if it’s possible to connect an external GPU (eGPU) to my Framework 13 AMD AI 300 model which I purchased mid-2025.

From my research, these Framework 13 laptop ports are USB 4, meaning that Thunderbolt 3 eGPU’s will work. Can anyone confirm this?

Has anyone done this and/or is generous enough to share their thoughts?

Thank you!

Two of the 4 slots are usb4. There are compatible with thunderbolt3 as per the usb4 standard.

I do not have a eGPU, but i have a FW16 with usb4 ports, and i have two thunderbolt3 devices that work with it.

You have to use high quality thunderbolt cables, because in my experience, one gets very mixed results depending on the cable.

I have a HX 370, my 3080 + TH3P4G3 works perfectly. I have it plugged into the top right port, as that is because only the top two ports support USB4 (which is required for EGPU). I recommend going with a external display if you’re gaming as the 2.8k display (assuming you have it) is capped at ~80 fps due to bandwidth limitations.

I have AOOSTAR AG02 paired with RTX 3080 and external 4k display.

OS: Bluefin-nvidia-gdx

HW: Fwk 13 ai 300

It works more or less ok, but I still need to solve input lag problem. I don’t know if it’s wireless input devices or wayland issue yet. But I think I’m pretty close to a setup that is actually useful for gaming.
