Hello all! I am, and have been for over a year now, experiencing really bad crashing on my laptop 13. Here are the specs:
Windows 11
Laptop 13 AMD 7040 Series
32 GB Ram
2 TB SSD
Bought August 2024.
I have reached out to support on numerous occasions and it has been ultimately fruitless. Many of my incredibly tech-savvy friends have been entirely stumped by my computer. I am on the most recent Drivers and BIOS. I am very frustrated by this. Whenever I run basically any game, from minecraft to roblox to bloons, or am just watching youtube, doing 3D modeling, or anything else. It is incredibly frustrating and inconsistent. Sometimes just the program itself will crash, but most of the time the entire laptop restarts. If there is any help anyone can provide it would be greatly appreciated.
Hey! Are you using the Framework driver bundles or Windows driver bundles? When you run memory test, what are the results? What are your display settings? Any change in behavior on AC vs battery?
Going to ‘pick on’ Minecraft for a moment and ask:: Are you running any Minecraft mods? If you turn off shaders and lower the resolution in Minecraft, does it still happen?
Thank you for responding! I am using the Framework driver bundles (or at least the ones given directly from framework). I have done many tests on my RAM, SSD, and have found nothing wrong with them. I also have tested (and not noticed) any difference in performance with AC plugged in vs. not.
I am going to run a memory test in a bit, and provide the results, and I’m not sure what display settings you are curious about, but never in any game or software has changing display settings impacted how much it crashed.
As for minecraft, I am not running any mods or shaders, and both Bedrock and Java edition crash (I would say) equally. Again, no changes to display settings, resolution, shaders, etc., have impacted crashing. It is not really dependent on anything in particular. Same thing with Roblox, playing on best vs. worst graphics, while it does impact performance, it does not impact crashing.
Hey @CJAIMLN Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I’d like to have some of my team take a closer look if that’s cool with you. Will you shoot me your email address via DM so that I can locate your previous support tickets? That way I don’t have to have you repeat yourself too much.
Did you figure this out? I’ve had the exact same experience as you. Apparently there is an incompatibility with some SSDs and AMD Ryzen 7040. I have a Crucial P3 Plus and it seems this might be the culprite. Unfortunately SSD prices have gone way up and are hard to find right now… I found some temporary fixes but the problem kept coming back. Let me know if you want to connect.
I did not remember others having a widespread issue with Crucial drives when some of the drive timeout investigation was going on. Are you running the NVME drivers from Crucial? That is a fairly recent drive in their lineup.
Were the fixes related to disabling power saving for the PCI bus and the drive?
Also, is your board running the latest BIOS for the 7040? There have been a number of little fixes even in the last six months that have addressed minor issues.
Sadly, SSDs are the Memoryapocalpyse’s next target and they have started to shoot through the roof too.
