Windows 11, but this is a hardware issue, I think. Framework Laptop 13 AMD 7040 Series, DIY edition.
At some point, the laptop stopped taking a charge; I’ve had no free time until now, months later, to try and debug.
Plugged in a power bank capable of 100W to the top-right USB-C port [as seen from the input cover/keyboard side] and the laptop is drawing 4W. From the top-left it draws the same 4W, other USB-C modules left disconnected.
I tried following the fully reset mainboard state guide; I don’t see an RTC battery below the RAM, to the right of the SSD. I have reached the step after disconnecting the battery, where I’m meant to plug a charger in, which I have. I see no change:
- laptop still doesn’t appear to charge
- the side LEDs which used to turn amber when charging don’t light up
- the white LED around the power button doesn’t light up
- the power button has no effect
- whenever plugged either to a charger on AC mains, or to my battery w/ watts-display, there’s what sounds like coil-whine coming from an area near the VRM, to the right of the CPU
- I can’t be more precise, coil-whine could also come from under the heat-tubes
I don’t know how to triage further, nor what other information to include/search for.
I’d welcome any advice; thank you, and best regards.
