Laptop restarting over night when lid closed

  • Which OS (Operating System)?
    Linux
  • Which release of your OS (Operating System / Windows 10, 11)?
    Debian 12
  • Which Framework laptop (11th, 12th or 13th generation Framework laptop, Chromebook or Framework Laptop 16) are you asking for support with?
Framework Laptop 13 AMD Ryzen 7040 Series

My current setup on my laptop is that I run Debian 12 with i3 Window Manager. I checked the firware through the link on the Framework site and used the LVFS and got this result when trying to update

Devices with the latest available firmware version:
 • System Firmware
 • UEFI dbx

The weirdest thing about this issue is that is only seems to occur if the laptop is left alone for long periods of time. I’ve closed my lid and come back an hour or two later to find it still up and running, but if I close the lid in the evening and come back in the morning the laptop has restarted.
I’ve also tried toying with the settings in logind.conf to try hibernate and suspend but neither of those seem to have any effect. I change the file back to how it was at initial installation and that didn’t resolve the issue either.

Same here. Closing the lid overnight with charger detached results in powered off system in the morning due to fully discharged battery. Probably because of an unintended reboot during that time.

It seems to me the actual restart is happening during manual wakeup from suspend and not by itself

It sounds like this is a bit of a different issue. From what I understand from the post linked, you experienced a fully discharged battery as a result of a restart bringing the laptop out of a sleep state? In my case with this laptop, I close the lid and open it later and find that it has gone into a shutdown state, with still plenty of battery, and the laptop starts up as usual.

In that case, do you have to push the power button to make it start or does it start by itself as soon as the lid is opened?

I open my lid and the power button is lit up but I have to hit a button to “wake up” and when I do it shows the usual Debian start up screen with the checks and such and then it goes into the Framework screen for when the laptop boots.

I will try checking the other power management tools and the system logs. Problem with the logs is that it happens sometime between 11 in the evening and 6 in the morning so there are a lot to comb through. If I find something though I’ll be sure to post. I haven’t worked with kernel level parameters, do you have any suggestions about where to look to get started for that?
