Long-term experience – cracks and cosmetic issues on Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen 7040)

Hi everyone,

I’d like to share some feedback after nearly two years of daily use with my Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen 7040-series)

Chassis durability: I recently noticed a crack on the left side of the main chassis. The right side is still fine, but the damage on the left concerns me a bit regarding long-term durability.

Bezel issues: This is now the second time that the plastic display bezel has cracked. I already replaced it once, but unfortunately the replacement has developed the same issue.

Input cover kit quality: In early August 2025, I installed a new input cover kit with a different keyboard layout. Out of the box, it already had some cosmetic defects (small marks/smudges that look like production artifacts). I tried cleaning them with alcohol, but they don’t come off.

I really like the concept of the Framework laptop and the repairability it offers, but I wanted to share this as honest feedback. Hopefully it helps Framework to improve material choices and quality control for future iterations.

Has anyone else experienced similar cracks or cosmetic issues after long-term use?

I would open a ticket with Support regarding the marks on the input cover, as that looks like something that would be replaced under warranty. I’d note the bezel issue as well. Although that may not be covered, it would be good for them to note it if they are tracking those things (and hopefully they are).

The same marks appeared on the input cover of my laptop 13 after about a year of use. I managed to clean them away with lens cleaner that contains some alcohol. My laptop does not have any cracks and feels solid after a lot of use.

There looks to be a pointed dent in the center of the crack on the chassis so you unfortunately must have just impacted it with a small or sharp object at the perfect point on the weakest part of the chassis. I imagine this is an uncommon occurrence. I’ve had my batch 6 FW13 since December 2021 and it has survived accidental drops over the years without the chassis showing any signs of visible damage.

Both the crack in the chassis and the crack on the bezel are on the same side of the laptop. This may just be coincidence… the previous time you had a crack in the bezel, was it also on the same side? If so, I wonder if a laptop sleeve with edge protection could have prevented this. If it wasn’t on the same side, do you tend to pull on the top part when taking off/putting on the bezel? That could put stress the plastic corners.
