Mainboard availability with DDR4 support is "Coming Soon" for ages now

Dear Framework-Community,

I love my 13, and I ordered the first batch of it years ago. Now, the mainboard needs to be replaced (actually for months now), and I am waiting for any mainboard replacement for the 11th, 12th, or 13th Gen, but these boards have been listed as “Coming Soon“ for several months now. I have signed up for an email when they become available, but since it’s been so long now, I wanted to reach out on the forum to ask if there’s any update or schedule on this?

I could buy an Intel Ultra or AMD board, but then I also need to upgrade to DDR5, which, given the current prices, is something I like to avoid, and, frankly, is unnecessary.

Thanks, and all my best

Julian

Framework does stop producing old generations at some point, then once stock runs out, that’s usually it for a given generation. Not sure exactly when they stop. But the 11th and 12th gen at least should be done. I think the shop system they use doesn’t have a way to mark items “out of production”.

There is the possibility of them having a number of refurbished boards, but the time window for that would be limited. Should be over for the 11th & 12th gen.

I’m in a similar boat as you. My 11th gen mainboard just gave up and the prospect of buying DDR5 RAM for a new mobo is not appealing.

I lost an auction on ebay for a 13th gen Intel mainboard and honestly I’m not mad. I bought a whole Thinkpad laptop used for the same price.

The Framework is going to live on a shelf for a year or two until chip prices settle down.
