Mainboard doesn't want to charge

I have a board that doesn’t charge but when I swap the battery from another framework, it’s working until the battery get to 0%. Is there a way to repurpose this board?

Yes a mainboard can be run in batteryless (“standalone”) mode. They make great NAS, homelab, router, and to a certain extent wifi AP platforms.

Here is a thread about what I did with one: Mainboard as Internet Router + Wireless AP + NAS Project - #73 by D.H

Thanks for the quick reply. but how do I run the mainboard if their only power coming from the battery connector… if I plug the usb connector the led are not on

The LED between the expansion modules on that side does not even turn amber? Mskes me question the power supply and/or USB cable if so…

Nothing … blank… and I’ve tried a lot of cable … 3 official framework powersupply (yes I have 3 framework laptop), and other cable. and nothing. But if I take a battery from another laptop and i replace it , it work until the battery goes to 0%.

Have you tried running the mainboard with no battery at all?

Yeap… and that’s not working. no led nothing

And just for the record… thanks for taking the time. It’s really appreciated.

I would say it is Framework Support ticket time then.

The mainboard doesn’t accept USB-C power. If resetting the mainboard(after charging the battery from another computer and put it back) doesn’t help, try finding the 17.8V rail and connect a bench power supply directly on it, do not connect the battery and the bench power supply at the same time.

Maybe try taking the battery charged and powering the laptop and doing a mainboard reset.

Sometimes if the EC has shutdown the USB ports on both sides (two different controllers) they will come back if there is not something physically damaging them.

@pkunk Thanks for the tip … will try
@Charlie_6 Will try after the @pkunk idea
@D.H Already done.

Hope it turns out successful! Let us know.
