Ahhh you mean passive as in without external power. You are probably better off getting usb-c to dial hdmi instead for that (or just give the mst hub external power).
Also the adapter you linked does seem to use external power
Edit: By bus powered it could also mean “no power brick required” or something.
Yeah that makes sense. Looking at the listing, this one requires external power.

I tried out a USB-C → Dual HDMI adapter but it didn’t work unfortunately. It only detected another monitor when plugged into the port I use for charging, and when I tried extending my display it didn’t work.
I’ve currently got a USB hub with hdmi ports. I’d like to replace it though as the fan is very loud.
And that was displayport 1.4+ mst? I have some dp1.2 mst hubs and they work fine for dual 1080p but if I try to go dial 1440p it will only allow me to run one at once unless I do weird custom resolution stuff because of bandwidth.
Yeah some DP 1.4 ports support dual 4k, I don’t think I need that much resolution though. The hub I tried didn’t have DP, it just went from USB C → Dual HDMI. This is supported on some laptops, but I think not the Framework 13.

Do you use this with an intel Framework 13 laptop and the DP expansion card?
All dp1-4 mst hubs should support dual 4k. dp1.2 to hdmi mst huvbs are really cheap though so it is possible you got sold one of those and they very much don’t support dual 4k at anything near usable refresh rates.
People have used usb docks with the intel fw 13 just fine so it certianly does suport dp and mst over usb-c.
No I don’t have one of those. I did use it on a much older 8th gen based thinkpad with a usb-c to dp dongle. All of my mst hubs need external power though.
