New Heatsink Design Question

Hey, current owner of an AMD Ryzen 7 board (still getting used to this, as before all of my previous processors were Intel) and wanted to ask–is there any chance the new heatsink design would work with the previous AMD Ryzen boards? Or are they too different to be compatible?

I feel like the cooling on the Ryzen 7 board is okay, but a bit of a weak point on the laptop at present. Even running Dark Souls 2 on low settings really cranks up the temps (I get it’s not a gaming laptop, but at the moment it’s all I have). Will I be out of luck trying to get in on this new and more robust heatsink without buying a Ryzen AI board?

I personally use PTM7950 to get temps down, a 10~15°C reduction

I switched the default paste out to PTM 7950 as well (albeit the paste form as opposed to the pads) and did notice a generally improved running temp. I just can’t help but want to push it even further with that shiny, new heatsink!

But from what you’ve included here, it seems like it’s probably more of a conductivity thing than a “this heatsink will solve all of your problems” thing. I guess I’ll try out the thermal pad when the paste inevitably starts to fail.

Do you have some photos or recommendations? The only place I know to get PTM7950 is here PTM7950. How big would I need?

I think the area should be the same or slightly larger than the surface of the CPU

Do you know what thickness is needed? Is it 2mm, or 2.5mm?

Thickness is not very important, either is fine.

Watch out, most if not all of the 0.20mm ones are counterfeit.
