OWC Aura P12 Pro 8TB M.2 NVMe SSD getting a little toasty

Hello everybody,

Here is my set up:

Framework DIY Edition First Batch
Intel 11th Gen i7-1185G7 v3.02
OWC Aura P12 Pro 8.0TB M.2 NVMe
Crucial Ballistix 64GB 3200
Win 10 Pro 21H1

I’ve had the system for a few weeks now and it is absolutely amazing. I am starting to notice some issues that the SSD that I’m using crashes once it gets a little warm. I am using an OWC Aura P12 Pro 8TB M.2 NVMe and after a few hours of hard use, the system crashes.

Once crashed, I cannot get it to come back until it theoretically “cools off”. If I don’t wait long enough, it will boot but crash soon after. I do not know if this is related to the warm system issue that is in the known bugs thread, but I am wondering if anyone else is having issues of their SSD crashing.

Has anyone else had any luck with an 8 TB solution?? I can move down to a 4 TB solution and am looking at the Seagate FireCuda 530 4TB PCIe Gen4 with Heatsink, I do not know it’s going to fit within the framework.

Here’s the message I get when the system tries to reboot after a crash or when I don’t wait long enough for the system to cool down:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am having a lot of fun with this system.

Thanks again,

Raul Espino

We haven’t tried out that drive specifically, but you could try a tool like SpeedFan or Open Hardware Monitor to check the S.M.A.R.T. temperatures on the drive to see if it is heating up.

We also haven’t tried the FireCuda 530, but someone did write in seeing issues around the 520. The 4TB WDC SN750 is the 4TB drive we have validated as working well.
