Payment Issue/Question

Hello there from Hong Kong! As I have learnt from before, freight forwarding is of course not allowed. Also from my understanding, it is alright to ship the laptop to my uncle in America. Since I plan to get my laptop in Q2 of 2024 (somewhere around June/July) I tried placing my order but noticed that I can’t select Hong Kong as the country for the payment process. If so, is it still alright if my uncle paid for it and I brought it back to Hong Kong?

Of course your uncle can buy it for you and send it to you framework has nothing to do with that. If your uncle buys it then he’s an American buying the laptop and shipping it to you. Framework shouldn’t care what your uncle does with it. The only problem would be a warranty claim would have to be claimed by the person who made the purchase so that would be your uncle.

If your uncle buys it in the US, that’s obviously okay. He’s obviously allowed to gift it to you. Then you’re responsible for importing it into Hong Kong, paying taxes and making sure the Laptop follows Hong Kong regulations and so on. Also Framework won’t give you support in Hong Kong, so in case of some warranty case etc. you’d need to send it back to you uncle and have him handle that.

Note that Framework may block you if you submit an order using a payment method based in an unsupported country. Since payment decides who is actually being sold the laptop, and Framework can’t sell to unsupported countries. The payment must be based in a supported country.

It’s perfectly ok for your uncle to pay. And that’s really how you have to do it. As others have said, any warranty issues must go through your uncle and his address. Framework can not ship anything to unsupported country, whether it’s a warranty issue or just an extra expansion card you want.
