Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS Beta on Framework 16 2025

Has anyone tried Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS Beta (with COSMIC) on Framework 16 (ideally on the updated version 2025, but possibly also on older versions)? Have you encountered any installation or runtime specifics? I would like to start a thread here that would cover this issue, similar to what was done for older versions of Pop!_OS.

Thank you very much.

Installed Pop!_OS 24.04 on a Framework 13 AI-340. So far, everything is going smoothly with no major issues. The fingerprint reader requires a bit of tweaking to get it fully functional, but it’s not a serious problem. The OS is fantastic and runs great so far. Now I feel like I have the perfect laptop for what I use it for. I’m not sure how challenging it would be for the Framework team to provide official support—my guess is that as long as Secure Boot needs to be disabled and a partnership with a competitor is required, it will likely remain unofficially supported

Thanks! Did you have to perform any additional steps during installation, or was it a standard install-from-a-bootable-drive process? And what about the fingerprint reader tweaks?

Just follow the procedure for the fingerprint linux-docs/Fingerprint-Checker at main · FrameworkComputer/linux-docs · GitHub

Standard installation from a usb drive with Pop_OS! 24.04. The Older version use an older kernel not compatible with AMD AI 300.

I have an 11th Gen Framework 13 which has been my daily driver for 4 years. PopOS 20.04 and 22.04 worked great, but upgrading to 24.04 completely borked the ability to create keyrings, such that I can no longer use any application that requires it (web browser, etc). I also had a ton of authentication issues with cosmic-greeter and had to do a bunch of TTY troubleshooting just to login.

The fingerprint did continue to work with no additional updates needed.
