Our dog chewed the end of my FW16’s USB-C charging cable yesterday, it’s utterly destroyed…
So, a few experiments:
- Some kind of thin USB-C power cable (intended for a phone, it came with a 65W adapter) with the Framework 16 power brick: Won’t provide power at all. This is probably a good thing, I assume the cable is too weak to carry enough current.
- Steam Deck thicc cable and power adapter: Charges! Seems to provide enough current to use the desktop (I’ve got KDE Plasma 6 going on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed). I don’t think it’s enough juice to run a game on the GPU. I’ll probably try some video tutorials and run Godot to see if it’s enough for that.
- Ordered these: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08D6NCQ1Z Since it’s random cables from Amazon, I’m sort of expecting the house to burn down or my USB-C port to get fried, but they had next-day shipping on it.
I’ve also been using one of these as a sort of wish.com MagSafe™ connector: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0CWGHXVFK Seems OK, hasn’t killed anything (yet), but I wish the magnets were stronger, it comes apart easily… which is sort of the point.
Is there a source for the correct USB-C charging cables that ships faster/cheaper than Framework’s website?
