Prebuilt FW16 Flickering and Rebooting During Windows Install

I just received my Prebuilt Batch 21 FW16 and am trying to install Windows 11, which, I mean should be easy enough. I installed the keyboard, rgb pad, and io modules per the guide.

However, I’m experiencing random flickering and reboots when trying to do anything, including getting windows installed. It occurs whether I’m in the Windows 11 setup menus or in the boot manager/ uefi so it’s probably a hardware issue. I powered down the laptop, but I can see the rgb lighting on the numpad while the laptop is still closed which is as interesting as it is concerning. I’ve submitted a support ticket, but it’s a framework laptop so I’m open to advice on troubleshooting, dis/re-assembly, and on any additional info that I need to provide to resolve the issue. Thank you!

Using the Framework guides ensure that the display cable is fully seated to the display. Ensure that your display expansion is also fully seated, and that there isn’t any debris, etc in the area.

Display - Framework Guides

This guide should help you get to the eDP connection at the back of the display. As you are working with Customer support, they may suggests similar things.

Thank you, I’ll take a look at it later today. Is the battery replacement guide a reasonable one to follow to address the power issues? I think it’s a power issue bc the rgb numpad goes off when the screen does. I also just noticed that the flickering and reboots occur almost exclusively when typing on the keyboard. A brief search on the Community Support / FW16 topics didn’t pull up similar issues…

Alright I think I got this resolved. For anyone experiencing something similar, like a ghost is randomly sleeping/ rebooting your framework laptop, it turns out that the latch connecting the fingerprint reader/ power button to its cable was open. As a result, when jostling the laptop by typing/ clicking, it was randomly sleeping and rebooting my laptop, which resulted in the flickering behavior that looked like a display issue. I’d honestly thought I’d gotten a lemon mainboard but that isn’t the case. Hope this helps someone else experiencing the same issue!
