Printer works after restarting, but keeps disappearing from Windows on my Framework Laptop

Hi everyone,

I’m having a strange printing problem on my Framework Laptop and I’m not sure whether I should be looking at Windows, the printer connection, or the laptop itself.

I’m running Windows 11 and have a printer connected over Wi-Fi. The printer works normally for a while, but occasionally Windows stops sending jobs to it. The printer still appears to be connected to the network, but print jobs either sit in the queue or disappear without producing anything.

Restarting the printer usually brings it back temporarily. Restarting the laptop also seems to help, but obviously that’s not a great solution if the problem keeps coming back.

I’ve already checked the basic things like the printer’s network connection, restarted the Print Spooler, and removed/re-added the printer. Other devices on the same network don’t seem to have the same problem.

One thing I’m wondering about is whether there’s a reliable way to distinguish a Windows printing problem from an actual printer-output problem. A simple test page can show that the printer responds, but it doesn’t necessarily tell me whether everything is being printed correctly.

Has anyone with a Framework Laptop experienced something similar with Wi-Fi printers on Windows 11?

Is there a particular driver, Windows setting, or troubleshooting step that helped make the connection reliable?

Thanks!
