I’m using the Penoval Usi2 for drawing and so far I haven’t found negatives in handling. No eraser tip and no programmable buttons but for a base model it’s fine

other people used it too

Regarding the Penoval USI 2.0 vs. Penoval MPP 2.0, I’d go with the MPP 2.0 all day, every day.

The MPP 2.0 version is a bit more expensive ($36 vs. $27 last I checked). But the MPP version has tilt support, a tail eraser, a programmable button, and a built-in magnet, which provides extra options for storage. The USI 2.0 version works fine and has the same pressure sensitivity, but lacks all those other features. The magnet alone is a great addition, as it allows me to stick it to the side of my file cabinet so it doesn’t get lost amongst the flotsam and other pens on my desk, lol.

Just thought I’d share my thoughts on those two pen options.

Sounds like just the thing to trigger a lid closed sensor, but I guess an FL12 doesn’t use a magnet for the lid close because of the way it will fold back into tablet mode.

I suppose if you lay it against the right spot of the laptop it may trigger a sensor, but in use, I didn’t have any issues.

based on the parts photos, there seem to be at least 2 magnets in the display and possibly 11 in the bottom cover, any chance any these would be strong enough to stick a stylus onto?

I find this apple pencil magnets pretty well to three locations below its chin (left, center, right). You’d need some sort of case or bracket too because it sticks out pretty far.

If the laptop lived quietly on a stand with its front edge free, this would be a pretty decent place to keep a stylus.

That was all I found. Magnets stick to the screws too, but that’s very fiddly.

i feel like we could probably squeeze some magnets in somewhere. i need to pull mine apart and take a closer look near the edges. we could also probable take a page out of the supernote book and add loop on somewhere (maybe as part of an expander card).

Agreed, I think a pencil charging/storage expansion card would be super slick.

Physically, I’d worry about twisting though… that’s a pretty long lever arm. Maybe both expansion slots could team up to hold the pencil.

This is exactly where my Surface Pen has been sticking. It’s a nice touch when it’s just sitting around somewhere, but not reliable for transporting/ using the chassis

I’m pretty new to styluses in general, but are there options that use metal tips at all that would work with the FW12? I’ve been using a Samsung tablet with a paper-like screen protector and a titanium nib on their S pen. That’s been the closest I’ve gotten to a natural writing experience.

I heard people praising lenovo precision 2, so for anyone here, is it good?

Has anyone tried Metapen M3 Pro here?

Any white options?

  • Lenovo PP2 = black or silver
  • MS Surface Slimpen 2 = black
  • Metapen 2 / 3 = silver

Speaking of great styluses - which program like OneNote or Penbook are you using for taking Notes with your stylus in Linux?

Interested by this one too.

I guess this is a good start, otherwise maybe Obsidian?

Already planned on Krita but also Rnote looks perfect for scribbling ideas!

i switched from OneNote to Obsidian about a year ago and am loving it, haven’t tried it out yet, but there is a community pen plugin for it that i’m looking forward to trying

Rnote has been very good for me besides occasional crashes so keep the auto-save on.

There’s Making sure you're not a bot! which also affects rnote, watch out for that too

I’ve tried the Black Lenovo Precision Pen 2 on my own Framework 12, and it wouldn’t pair via bluetooth, so I couldn’t use the pressure sensitivity.
