Replacement part for module latching in Laptop 12

Literally only trying to get this as a replacement part, but Framework is saying I can only get the whole bottom chassis as a replacement part???

Can someone verify this? Or better yet, if true, know where I can go elsewhere for this small latch replacement part? I’m not going to buy a whole new bottom chassis for $49 just to replace one small removable plastic latch that likely only costs less than $5 :man_facepalming:t2:

That is probably correct from what they are telling you about it only being available as a whole assembly.

Not a ton of Framework Laptop 12s are even out there yet.

While it may not seem realistic, it is financial suicide to literally offer each and every part for sale. How did the one break in the first place? Could it be mended with some careful application or epoxy? It is likely not a structural part right? Find another way to secure whatever it secured or just be more careful in the future.

If it is that important draw it up and maybe someone can 3D print one? Or make something by hand with a knife and some wood?

Unfortunately the part that broke off has disappeared so there’s no mending it back.

Hi,

Try contacting FW support via their website form. Maybe it will be covered under warranty.

Can you makeshift something to hold it all in place for a while?

The Hardware Development Github repo is marked as ‘Coming Soon’ so if that part is in there when it lands you might be able to get that 3D printed.

The recommendation of buying the chassis was what FW support suggested…

Nope, but luckily I won’t have a need to use the module on the broken side, so it’s fine just for now.

Won’t they supply one under warranty?

Looks like a defect to me if it has already broken.

Nope, they consider it accidental damage, which is not covered.
