I’m simply wondering if I am able to, at a later date, install the 5070 or other future offerings into a 7040 series model. I only see the AMD 7700S discrete GPU available on the configuration screen, which makes me hesitant as to what will actually be available to me.
The 5070 is compatible with the 7040. I can’t predict the future, but know of no reason why future GPUs shouldn’t be compatible.
@Hyper_Fixate yes, it was confirmed by Framework, that there is full compatibility, so you can use RTX 5070 with 7040 series and also older Radeon 7700S with AI 300 series.

In the FW release video for the 5070, they said it would work in existing FW16s.
You might have to wait until it is available and being delivered, before you can purchase it separately in the FW shop.
I am a bit surprised at FW’s approach to this.
I would have thought FW would sell more stuff, if they allowed customers to purchase stuff, even if it is out of stock, or not available yet. But they don’t currently.
Then when the stuff in back in stock, they could have delivered it immediately to customers.
