Scratches on the screen caused by the space bar, any tips for prevention/damage controle?

After using my laptop for about two weeks, I noticed a scratch starting to form on the screen.

When the lid is closed, it lines up perfectly with the space bar. I was wondering if other users have experienced the same issue and if they have any tips to prevent further damage. I’m already very careful with my electronics and clean the laptop daily with a microfiber cloth, so there shouldn’t be any dirt or dust left on the keys that could cause the scratch.

Hopefully, some of you have tips, as I’ve only had the laptop for a few weeks and this is the only significant issue I’ve encountered so far.

My system:

  • Framework 13
  • AMD 7640U
  • 2x 16GB RAM
  • 1TB storage
  • 2.8 K display
  • Fedora 40

Propably the best way is to buy those thin “keyboard cover” cloths and put it between the keyboard and display when you close the lid.

Here is a thread similar to your situation.

Any piece of cloth will do, no need to buy anew. Cut to the size of the screen - slightly smaller so the bezel dozen rest on it.

It can be reasonably thick, like denim and then will also absorb some pressure from the screen and stop it flexing.

I use two pieces. One thicker piece, cut down to keyboard size to stop pressure and a thin piece to cover the whole input cover.

Thank you for your suggestion. However, it should be noted that the issue is not related to oil prints. It’s a small straight scratch forming on the screen. It seems like the problem is the space bar that doesn’t align properly. The bottom size seems to be a little bit higher than the top side, and other keys.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll do this while I wait for a response from Framework support. I hope it works out, as I’ve never encountered this kind of issue with my previous laptops.

If you scroll up on the post, you can see that the screen was also being somewhat damaged by the spacebar.

I doubt the damage is ‘caused’ by the spacebar, but by pressure on the screen forcing it onto the space bar.
