(If rolling release, last date updated?)

6.17

Which BIOS version are you using?

Which Framework Laptop 16 model are you using? (AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series)

framework 16 AI 300 series

I noticed on linux when having brave browser open and checking websites the screen will flicker on it’s own like now and then, but if i boot up windows 11 it’s not behaving the same, so i think this is more of a linux issue and i wonder if anyone has a solution?

Effect of flicker is more like in half bottom area of the screen and it will like jitter quickly like shake up and down and stop and then do it again not long after real quick.

I’m not using any dGPU only built in GPU on my AI 300 series cpu.

Does it by any chance look kinda like this?
The thing in the glitch with the framework logo is my desktop background

well kind of, but not in that color thought.

It has a temporary tear in display for maybe 5 ms and goes away and can come back again and happens more often on scrolling on websites.

Mine does not thought do the desktop appearing, instead mine is like it tears the display temporarily real quick.

Only happens on linux, in windows 11 it is fine and does not tear at all, so that is why i posted this in Linux section since i suspect it’s more of a linux related issue than hardware issue.

It might be faulty display cable or loose connection.

Did you even read full post?

Issue only occurs in Linux but not in windows. So then it isn’t a hardware issue or a lose connection or issue with any cable.

@JakeSully
No, it seems i did not read the full post.

So, most likely an amdgpu driver bug.
The best place to report them is here:

I have noticed something this too, every once in a while. I have a Framework 16, Ryzen 7040 series. It seems like the bottom half of the screen briefly goes black (or maybe white–I forget). The flash is very brief–I blink and then it’s gone.

If the problem were more common, or easier to characterize, I would have reported it here earlier.

I’ve seen this across each BIOS version I have run:

  • 3.03
  • 4.2
  • 4.3

…and various Linux kernel versions.

I think I wrote title a bit wrong.

Issue I got is more like a tear than a flicker and then it shakes for short while, but only happens on Linux so far but not in windows.

I had the same on Fedora KDE Plasma, which stopped with Kernel **.19.** and Plasma 6.6.1. So no idea which was the fix. Only happened on Firefox and I have the FW16 Ai9 using internal GPU.

Update: So interesting thing was i did a update on Zorin OS 18 Pro now and i was quite sure i had Kernel Version 6.17 but it turned out i was still using 6.14 weird, since today a update for 6.17 came and after reboot it went over to 6.17 as kernel. So far the tearing when scrolling up and down on brave has stopped appearing, while before it would tear.

So i’ll keep checking and see if this tear effect returns or not
