Shipping to Japan?

Offer both at the same price to do a/b testing, may not be worth the extra skus but would be interresting.

I would also love to see Framework available in Japan.

Thankfully used Thinkpads are widely available and cheap, but I would prefer to have a Framework, especially when there is an updated version of the AMD Framework 13.

Attempting to do so can lead to your order being cancelled and payment method blacklisted.

Has this been officially announced by Framework?

I heard someone say that ā€œJapan is a genius in designing regulatory barriers,ā€ but importing computers (and many other electronic gadgets) privately usually incurs no customs or duties.

I really hope Framework doesn’t limit the use of shipping forwarders. I’ve been waiting for almost five years here in Japan. There aren’t many five-year periods in a person’s life.

Most people who choose to use shipping forwarders understand the risk of losing the official warranty. Framework is a DIY-oriented product, so I think most people wouldn’t mind.

Permanent Resident here. Been waiting patiently since Framework first became a company. Has it been 5 years already!

As a US Citizen though, I imagine even after they open up to the Japanese market it would still be cheaper for me to buy from the US and have it shipped to me. The markup on everything electronic is crazy here. The ARKTax as it’s known locally.

I’ve been eagerly waiting for an official Japan launch, and now I want it even more as custom keyboards seem to be coming soon!

I don’t want to import it from somewhere else for warranty and support reasons, so I’d really love if a Japan launch was in the cards soon :folded_hands:

Hey there. I’m also have moved to Japan with my Framework 13 gen 1 and honestly would like to update it for a newer hardware (especially webcam and screen). Though it runs exceptionally well and I probably can wait for years more (but don’t want to :sob:)

If you just need some replacement parts, then Frame Parts is an option: frame-parts.myshopify.com. Worldwide shipping, not-for-profit. Also, on the front page they say: ā€œIf you need a part that is not on the website, just get in touch and we can order it in for youā€. Some people miss that. Of course, as long as you are living in a region that Framework can’t directly serve, assume no Framework warranty. And Frame Parts can not provide a warranty.

I have no association with them, and have never needed to use them myself.
