[Solved] Framework 16 No Internet

I’m running Windows 11 on a framework 16 AMD 7040 Series. Last night, after not using my laptop for several days, I started it up and got hit with a Windows security update (KB5068861) and once that all finished I started things up and had no Internet on my wifi network. This was strange because every other device on my network seemed fine. Restarted the Wi-Fi router anyways, didn’t fix it, so I plugged in an Ethernet cable to the framework Ethernet card. No Internet on there as well, just a blinking connection being established symbol in the system tray that eventually just turned into the no Internet symbol.

Following some tips online I reinstalled network adapters, uninstalled the security update, reset my network settings, installed the latest framework drivers, bios update, etc. Nothing has worked, no wired or wireless connection.

Not sure what to do at this point, would love some thoughts on other things I could try. Thanks!

just start with simple test. are you getting IP address from LAN or WIFI?

If yes, then try to ping your router

win + r

cmd

press enter

ping ip_address_of_your router

if you get response, then you can check if you have connection to internet

tracert 8.8.8.8

if it works, then probably you have issue with DNS

It is just bling guessing. Have you tried to troubleshoot network connection issue, click right mouse button in wifi icon and then choose diagnose network problems

OK, followed these steps. ping to the router worked fine. Then tried tracert and it worked, just REALLY slowly. Made me wonder if my VPN was on. Double checked, and it wasn’t, and on a whim I thought, “What if I enabled it?” Tried it and suddenly the tracert call worked as expected and internet connectivity was restored. Disabled the VPN and I’m back to running as usual.

No idea what happened. This issue had persisted across restarts, etc, so not sure why starting and stopping my VPN did it.

It looks like issue with routing. This is the only change which VPN enabling and disabling could change. I’m glad that you solved your problem
