[Solved] Media Keys not working, other Fn-keys fine

System info

Which Linux distro are you using? KDE Neon
Which release version? 24.04
Which kernel are you using? 6.6.48
Which BIOS version are you using? 3.04
Which Framework Laptop 16 model are you using? Weaker Ryzen + 7700S

Since a week or two, my media keys and brightness control keys are not working anymore (F1-F8).
Weirdly enough, the other fn-keys work just fine (even page up/down, fn-lock, …)

First I thought it would be the problem as in this topic Media Keys broken in Arch, but in my case, the function keys show up in sudo showkey -k and not all of them are broken.

Now I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. I already tried setting the shortcuts manually, but the KDE settings wouldnt recognize the keypresses :frowning:
I already tried a different kernel, but OpenZFS limits me to 6.6 and the initially installed 6.8 had the problem too.

Short update:

  • showkey shows the media keys, xev doesnt
  • The keys work in a X11 session, but not in wayland

The problem sill persists, even on Kernel 6.9.1

I tried rebinding the keys using keyboard.frame.work but that didnt change anything either.

I solved it:
In the system settings → mouse there was an option to select the keyboard and numpad module.

Because I thought that I dont need them active as mouse, I disabled them.
Guess what, disabling the keyboard and numpad module in the mouse settings disables FN keys.
