Oops I used the wrong email address, I added my Framework account’s email address to the support thread in a reply. I couldn’t figure out how to DM people on this forum, but I replied to the original email thread which is titled “Smoke from battery area”

This has nothing to do with your specific issue, but if you ever find yourself with a dangerous li-ion battery that you have nowhere to put, I’ve had luck in the past putting it in a plastic bag, and putting that in a cooking pot (and occasionally filling that pot with sand if the cushion is spicy enough). Then if you can get it to like a Batteries Plus store or an electronics store they can dispose of it safely.
That’s a great idea, I’ll have to keep that in mind for next time.
I heard back from support today and they said the battery needs to be replaced and are sending a new one.
