SOLVED | USB Ports 1 and 2 won’t work on my Framework Laptop 16

So for added context, i run CachyOS as my main OS and have windows on my secondary drive for edge cases, and this issue is present on both. It seems that after my Fw16 gets passed the BIOS, USBc ports 1 and 2 wont work, accept new devices, charge the laptop, etc. so far the only leads i have is that this occurs after i get passed the BIOS screen, this is happening after i updated to the latest BIOS, but I’m not yet sure if this is a direct result of the update since I don’t remember this happening until today, and this error that shows up either 1 or 2 times in journelctl -b:

ucsi_acpi USBC000:00: unknown error 256

Any ideas? I suspect id have to downgrade my bios but id like to know more about what might be going on

Unplug power, reboot into bios, choose the battery disconnect option, then save.

It will power off. Wait 5 minutes just to be safe.

Plug the power back in and turn it on.

Should be good now. This is a lasting bios bug we have been plagued with since the 4.x boss versions.

EDIT: if this really happened and is persistent after the bios update, try updating the bios again. It might have not updated those ports.

that seems to have worked, thanks. ill keep an eye on it for now.

do you know what causes this? its ok if you dont know, im just curious as a casual tinkerer lol

I do not know what causes it, just that it’s something wrong with Framework’s firmware. There is an issue reported over here, and as you can see, they last commented on it 3 weeks ago. I don’t know why it takes them so long to fix issues.

gotcha. yeah i havent had many issues lately so it isnt something i noticed, but yeah its interesting. but ya thanks for the help
