the decision to default the BIOS to use MPP still confuses the hell out of me. The official framework pen is USI, right? so when you buy a Framework Laptop 12 and pen together, does someone go in before it ships and change the BIOS, or do they ship you a product that just doesn’t work out of the box?

That was the issue. Thank you for the suggestion. This is the first pc I’ve had where I’m dedicating to full Linux use.
So with that being said (having MPP) then this would would with the surface pro pens as well hypothetically?
I wondered about that too. Nrp chimed in to clarify things.

Indeed. I have used a MS Slim Pen 2 with no issues.
Hey everyone, fellow FW 12 buyer frustrated by the lack of stylus and communication about it.
I sent a mail to framework and got a reply that the stylus is scheduled to restock on october 24th.
Let’s hope there’s gonna be more stock this time. Especially since it’s more than 3 weeks after initial release.

It is so laughable that their customers have to scroll through random community forum threads to get any kind of information.
So much frustration and support requests could be avoided if they just got their communication with actual customers right. A password protected service area for actual customers that ordered their stuff. Insights into current known issues, availability estimates, etc.
Right now users are left to deep-dive into Reddit and this forum (to hopefully get some somewhat reliable second hand info) and bombard support with the same inquiries.
Since a few years now. As awesome as the products are on paper - communication is really ridiculous.

I bought my FW12 (16.10.) and at the time, the sage colored styles was unavailable (all others could be configured). At around 24.10. the configurator now had the sage colored in stock again.
After talking with support, they told me that due to limited stock they only allow bundles via a direct laptop purchase for now. They do not have a timeline when the stylus will be available as a spare part for everyone interested.
I hope that it will soon be available. I don’t want to buy a different stylus for the time being (e-waste concerns).

How is it possible that those who’ve bought a FW12 before the Stylus was available don’t get priority when ordering one now with the limited stock?
Why are they treated the same as people whose Stylus order would be their first business with Framework?

It’s probably just a limitation of their store system, not having an option of making it available only to certain users, like previous FWL12 buyers.

What? They expect me to buy a 2nd FW12 just so I can get a stylus?
AFAIK: Spare parts are sent from local warehouses. If that is true, my best guess is that the limited stock of stylus are only delivered to Taiwan (from where all laptops are sent so they can get bundled). Therefor there is simply no stock available for spare part warehouses (yet).
I’d be disappointed if that is true, but I can understand this from a business perspective (as in real life, doing what would be most fair often requires an unreasonable amount of effort).
Anyway, we’re just talking about time. Let’s just hope that it doesn’t take too long for Framework to receive a large enough quantity of items to get the stylus in stock

Sad to hear about all this. Even more sad that framework has sent 0 public communication about this issue 4 weeks after initial release of the stylus.
I caved and bought a metapen M2 because I needed a pen. Sadly can not get the back eraser or pressure sensitivity to work at the moment. Hopefully it’s just a config issue and not a compatability issue.
