Im wondering where the status LED’s went on laptops, the ones where it shows you if the disk is being accessed, if networking and bluetooth is on, if the laptop is asleep or awake, battery status, things like that. think like older ThinkPads. im almost wondering if something like that is possible on the Fw16. my initial idea is to have the status LED row between the hinges under the lid (when open) so that they can be seen whether the laptop is opened or closed. i know some people have set up their LED matrixes to do this for them but id like something dedicated to that task so then i can use the LED matrixes for something else. any thoughts?
I imagine status LEDs got cut with the general endless cost-cutting to squeeze in more profit.
I love the ThinkPad indicator. “Think dot”? Didn’t like the default always-on, but that was easy enough to change.
I think I recall that newer Framework 16 firmware changed how the sleep pin for input modules behaves, from what to what I don’t know if I recall. Maybe you could tap into that to get accurate sleeping state. Embedded Controller close case debug is also available. What OS(es) are you on or planning to target?
I’m with you 100%, I love those kinds of status indicators. It’s what inspired me to write some custom firmware for my RGB keyboard so I could show status indicators using those LEDs. Perhaps you’d find it interesting:
