I’ve thought of shipping completely unassembled expansion cards but need people’s opinions, a few things to note is that I would have to make a new PCB for each one using more hand solderable components and the price difference will be minimal.
If so, would it be possible to design them so that they can be assembled entirely using lead-free solder?
I know this can have an impact on the design, thus my request.
No difference in design, just a bit more cost, only need to specify it to my fabricator.
@Josh_Cook as far as I can tell, best option would be to propose both assembled (for people who don’t own a soldering iron or any soldering skills, like me) and unassembled (for people having a little bit more expertise). I dont know if it could affect the cost of your parts.
This was my plan as it’s essentially as simple as not assembling one board, as I have access to a pick and place it makes it very easy.
Then do it chief. Its nice to see people taking others opinions when making products (“cought” DELL, Asus, etc).
