Everything works and looks as it should. Screw number 4 on the mid plate has never screwed in, but doesn’t effect anything. I threw commodore vision OS on it - a debian ‘spin’ I guess. It’s set up with the default password if you choose to keep it. Will be shipped in it’s original shipping carton. Went back to apple, can’t justify keeping it, and I need to buy a small server. If you would rather have a display port expansion card instead, let me know, I can swap it. I think this will be the last price drop before this laptop becomes a server. depending on how well it does, I might sell off the parts I don’t need.
That’s a pretty cool looking skin on there, and it matches the orange bezel quite well. Good luck!
thank you - you’re not the first to tell me that. I can see bright colors, but I’m mostly colorblind.
Would you consider selling the laptop with just the mainboard and interposer? Being Canadian I have to think about the tariffs on top of the exchange rate.
Display? expansion ports? I’m confused. I actually loaded it up with RAM and NVME drives to make it a server now. seems to be a pretty soft market.
I think because Framework is neglecting the 16 and that scares people away with the fear the product is being abandoned.
I think your price is fair otherwise, and would have been tempted to buy this as a second machine for my wife if it weren’t for the above mentioned issue.
I’ve wondered if it’s being abandoned. I’m thinking it will make a pretty decent proxmox server - right now it has 96G RAM and 9TB storage. Now if I could just get the proxmox boot to stop going into grub.
None of the above, looking for a barebones option. And I note also that the 16 seems to be missing attention, but 13 is too small otherwise Framework sells a bare chassis at that size that would be my preferred option.
bare bones - case, mainboard, display, bezel, keyboard, numpad spacers m.2 expansion
no expansion cards, ram, storage -
is that what you mean?
Why do people keep muttering under their breath that the FL16 has been abandoned? Framework have made no secret that having got the FL12 and Desktop announced they have some “exciting developments” in the pipeline for announcement later this year.
And why do people expect to get details way before they are ready to announce? Does your boss tell you what your pay packet is going to be in 6 months time? No, they wait until it is time for the adjustment to happen before they tell you.
Framework need to be certain of their product development and have the component supply lines in place - and that includes the specially designed mechanical bits as well as the “bog standard” electronics bits - in place to ensure they have a reasonable chance of meeting any suggested delivery dates before they do a product announcement.
And I’m excited for it. Didn’t sell the FW16, it’s pretending it’s a server now. But can be brought back into service if the need arises!
