I had a very weird bug today with my daily driver USB-C hub. I just came back from a weekend trip where I barely used the laptop but entirely standalone. I plugin and boot and my USB-C hub at my desk won’t display any HDMI to the display but USB devices work just fine, display just not detected. I tried reseating all of my modules, no fix. I tried booting into all of my OS options (2 copies of windows 11, 1 copy of Ubuntu), no fix. I try my duplicate hub I keep in my backpack, doesn’t work either.
Finally I get some things working, I plugin to a framework HDMI module, that works. I plug the same hub that I can’t get to work into the dGPU USB-C and that WORKS. “What is going on?” I think.
Finally I figured a hard reset would fix my issue, so I go into the BIOS and choose the disconnect battery option, give it a minute, connect to power and boot and now my USB-C hub is working fine again on PORT 1 through a USB-C module. Figured I would share my experience in case anyone runs into the same issue. The battery disconnect option in BIOS does in fact serve the same function as a cold boot it seems.
