The announcement for the desktop showed a handle for the case, and every youtube reviewers have shown it as well. Where is it? I don’t see it in the store, and it was not in the box (unlike the review kit boxes the youtubers got).
My review kit certainly didn’t include one (I received components, not a full desktop)—I remember the early mentions I saw had just little screws in that part of the case, but the marketing photos mostly featured the handle, since it’s cute.
The last I heard (a month or so ago?), the handle design was still being finalized before full production. It’s a little funky in how you screw in each side, then screw them together.
I did watch your review too Jeff
. Level1ltech had it and showed it in the “unboxing experience”. It’s frustrating when reviewers get something different from what the paying customer get. Not good for the youtuber or the company.
I assume that your handle requirements can not be fulfilled with that one from the Github? Framework-Desktop/Case/handle.stl at main · FrameworkComputer/Framework-Desktop · GitHub
Website says “coming soon”.
Mass production has not started yet it seems. It’s a shame, but I prefer them shipping the rest earlier than to delay the desktop launch just for the handle.
Very similar experience with the FW12. Stylus is not yet available. A bit disappointing, but IMO better than delaying the FW12 launch.
I did see the 3d printable files in github, and it’s great they have them. But no, it’s not the same thing. I don’t see myself dangling a $2k piece of kit from a 3-d printed piece of plastic.
I agree with that 100%, but this should have been made a lot clearer to the buyers and evidently to all the youtubers that showed it in their “unboxing experiences”. I don’t even see the handle in the marketplace as a pre-order/coming soon/notify me.
I agree. Only the product overview page shows “coming soon”. No mention of a handle at all anywhere else. IMO a clear note on the configuration page (right before the “add to cart” button) would be much better.
They do list the included screwdriver on the checkout page, without mentioning it earlier. So that would also be a great place for the note - right below the screwdriver.
I don’t think you are the first one with a negative experience. They definitely could handle customer expectations better there.
I was disappointed, but at least aware before buying. Sadly by going through almost the same with the FW12 stylus. IIRC it was a bit more obvious there, as the stylus in general is more expensive and nobody would have expected it to be included automatically. I could see people expecting the handle (like the screwdriver) and being completely surprised.
Handle was also one of the factor in my pre-order decision. I just saw Github page and all the STL files for 3D printing. This is disappointing, I watched LTT’s video where he showed the handle.
So was I really. I do remember the handle would come later from when I pre-ordered months ago. But when I saw these youtube unboxing and it was in there, I was hopeful it would be included, and disappointed again when it wasn’t. But then I went to look for it in the marketplace, since clearly the youtubers have it, it must be available now, right? Nope. Not a trace.
It’s just poorly handled. (no pun intended)
I understood from various posts that the handle would not ship with the Desktop early orders as they were not in production. That said, they were obviously produced for the YouTube and other reviews. So that’s confusing.
I’m ok for them to ship later provided I do not have to buy it as and ‘optional extra’ and am not charged freight.
Sorry to tell you, but the only thing that matters is your order. The handle is not included for any orders that were made so far. Otherwise it would be listed… like e.g. the screwdriver.
No handles for early adopters. We have to buy them separately, once they hit the webshop.
I’m sorry to hear about this experience. Since it’s mentioned on both the Framework Desktop overview page (as optional and coming soon), we thought it would be clear that this is an optional part and will be available later. Reviewers and YouTubers sometimes receive extra parts or components that aren’t yet in the Marketplace, and in some cases, these aren’t even the final versions of the product.
When placing an order, the best way to confirm what’s included in the box is to check the “What’s in the Box” section of the specs tab. You may also have noticed that the handle design looks different between recent review videos and the LTT video from six months ago, that’s because the design has since been updated. Even the version reviewers received recently isn’t final; there will be slight design changes before it’s available in the Marketplace.
I strongly recommend checking the pictures in the Marketplace listing (once it’s live) before placing an order. In the future, we’ll work on making it even clearer which parts are included by default and which are optional in the configurator.
You probably should make that very clear to the youtubers/reviewers you send stuff to so that they don’t set the wrong expectation to their viewers.
I definitely noticed it wasn’t listed in the “What’s in the box” section, but given it’s fairly prominent positioning in most marketing outside of the product page (announcement, reviews, etc), I hoped it would have just been considered part of the standard case without necessarily being itemized on the specs page.
Obviously I didn’t buy this machine for the handle, but it definitely added to the appeal for me as I plan to use it for LAN parties when I’m not experimenting with AI models. I hope it will be available soon for a reasonable price (it better not be like Mac Pro wheels
)
That reminds me of this…
Doooooo it! Dooooooo it! Dooooooo it! Hahahaha
Ya tricked me, from the reviews I thought the handle was included.
The handle is now available for configuration under the new heading “Add-Ons”…
