Shipping now?

First shipments are planned for early Q3, which is now.
Any news on this front?

An update would be great on release times and changes, if any, to the design.

It does seem very quiet on the information front given the approaching shippment promises

There is never a promise. It always depends on how the production ramp up goes. FW ships as they build them for the initial batches.

Some other companies instead delay release while building up stock.

I am a bit worried because of rumors regarding the general supply of Strix Halo chips. There is obviously some supply already as there are a few products with it already on the market and shipping, but AMD might be struggling with production and yields.

If that is the case, it is however outside of Framework’s control. In any case, I see it relaxed. The first day of Q3 doesn’t IMHO necessitates already an update.

I love your optimism. Obviously not familiar with how Framework does things, but in general if a company says shipping Q3, they mean shipping on or before September 30, not shipping July 1.

I expect no less for my batch 8 but batch 1 is announced as ā€œearly Q3ā€. With this logic it should ship at mid August.

I think you are writing the person here. I don’t think that Framework would ship at July 1, even with ā€œearly Q3ā€.

For me the issue isn’t the shipping date but the flow of information. My interpretation of the Framework brand ā€˜promise’ is one of meeting the needs of a particular market; we tinkers and tech enthusiasts who are curious, often detailed, and very much into sharing our knowledge and insights. It’s the latter sharing that I’d like more of.

Where are we in the development cycle? What’s being discovered and experienced? What’s good, bad, ugly, and surprising? If there is something that slows a process and thereby extends expected delivery, I can live with that … if I know about it.

I too would like some info on where things are. It becomes a bit more relevant with all the tariff nonsense as well. As a first Gen amd 13 owner, I saw a lot more info during the wait for that. On this purchase there’s been nothing since the media reviewed them months ago.

I would like an update too. Im in batch 7 so not hopeful but anything would be nice to hear.

It does seem very little news or update, not just for the FW Desktop but many other AI Max+ 395 systems also. Aside from the rush of preview videos on YouTube, I haven’t seen an actual unit being reviewed.

I really hope I can get my hands on mine soon. Unfortunately I am in Batch 10 so I am guessing at least Sep?

Retro Game Corps has posted a review today of the GMKtec device with the Ryzen Max+ 395 … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYLwDkGZOJk

Pricing seems … similar… though I much prefer the look and form factor of the Framework unit (internal PSU, for a start) … plus, I’ve more faith in Framework, as a company, than GMKtec.

Contrary to what some people over here write there are some units with Strix Halo available. I recently bought HP with AI 395+ in Poland and AMD mobile chips are usually delayed here. So I wouldn’t really be worried. Early Q3 means anything between Jule 1st and mid August. I thin first people should get their messages in a week or two.

Did you mean the HP laptop or mini PC (HP Z2 Mini G1a)? I’d be very interested in any review comments you have on the HP, please, @Marcin_Szeflinski including how much the unit cost, its configuration, and anything you note about performance :man_raising_hand:

I’ve bought notebook, but Mini PC is also available over here. In case of mini PC it’s much easier to get 64 GB option than 128 GB one and in case of notebook it’s the other way. Price depends on RAM. HP Mini PC with AI MAX+ PRO 395 and 64 GB of RAM starts at ~12000 PLN (2850 EUR), notebook with 64 GB starts at 15000 PLN (3500 EUR). Note prices include 23% VAT tax.
Performance is great, but still for most people it’s better to get something cheaper. Check Level1Techs YT channel and forums. Wendell had lots of fun with HP’ Notebook and did lots of tests there. I think that most units were delivered to people who actually need it, not to the press and that’s why tests aren’t common. People just use these units to do some work.

Thanks @Marcin_Szeflinski that’s very helpful!

Kinda disappointed it’s been 11 days since you started this thread and nobody from framework has commented. The preorder still show Q3 if I ordered today so I hope they’re coming soon.

While Framework employees do sometimes post or comment on things, this is primarily a community forum.

Y’all are my people! I’m a batch 1 person and I think one of the first things I did when I saw Q3 was to double check with Google when that officially starts so I could daydream about how soon it might arrive.

My take is I’m optimistic that we’ll get an update soon. We’ve seen a few deep dives over the past months so I think it’s safe to say we’ve not been completely forgotten about. It’s a bit uncharted territory since framework has never had as many new products to juggle launching.

My hope is that when the announcement comes especially if it’s bad news that they just keep it real. I’ve pre-ordered enough with other companies to see some really terrible launches. The very worst from my prospective is when companies are overly optimistic when they seemingly already should know shipping estimates are impossible.

In my mind we are still early Q3 so no deadlines missed quite yet. Fingers crossed we get news soon.

The other non-Chinese made framework mini-desktop that was announced this year (The HP one) was announced as having an August release date, so I didn’t expect the Framework desktop to come out before August myself. The chinese made ones are just diverting Laptop-binned processors to mini desktops, like many of their Mini-PCs do. I expect the ones in the Framework to be much better at the higher wattage usages than those, since most of the laptops using this chip seem to top out at under 100 watts.
