Whiteboard Input Module

Framework 16 Whiteboard

With a massive chin bezel and these two keyboard spacers just hanging out, I decided to put them to work. I used a dry erase sticker and some dry erase tape (links below) to cover up these spots. I bought a pack of ultra fine tip dry erase markers which makes writing on the stickers very practical. The ink is very hard to erase, but the back of each marker has an eraser (or you can scrub with a dry cloth).

It would be nice if Framework could make their own dry erase spacers (for like $20). It seems a lot more practical than some of their other spacer designs (not hating, just being honest). I would definitely buy a double wide dry erase keyboard spacer, but this will work for now.

Anyone have other dry-erase/whiteboard ideas?

It’s fine like this, but when I change the GPU module (something I do about once a week or so for various reasons), I have to be very careful taking off the input modules or the sticker will peel and bubble. If it was one solid piece, then it would be fine.
Having one double wide input module with the whiteboard already attached seems like a relatively easy win if they want to keep the input module idea fresh and make a little money. It would require minimal R&D and be relatively cheap to manufacture.

This is incredible. Great idea!

This is awesome.
Now add an expansion card that is a tiny whiteboard-marker!

(you can also get readymake ink for refilling from e.g. Edding).

Lol, my crafting abilities seem to peak at putting stickers on things, but a tiny little marker or pen would be a fun thing to put in an expansion card. I know there are little stickers with elastic loops on them to hold pens. I might get one and attach it to the back of the screen. But I already have a hot spot and an SSD velcro-ed to the back. Not sure how much more these hinges can take.

did you cut/trim the 3x5 sticker? @henrytr

Yes, I did.
Just measure, mark, and cut.

Would it work to continue to the whiteboard down to the palm spacers on the bottom? Like a “full length” whiteboard down the entire right side?

I thought about it, but my (sweaty) palm usually rests around there and the dry-erase ink would probably smudge off.
Feel free to try it. If it works well after a week, let us know.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, perhaps a new topic, but it’s an idea I had similar to the whiteboard input module. Unfortunately Framework still isn’t available in my country, and probably not something I would be working on anytime soon. I thought I would post my idea and see what people’s thoughts were.

Essentially a spacer using a Cholesteric liquid crystal display. For quickly jotting ephemeral notes like the white board, but you don’t need a special marker, they are thin, low power (only needing power when erasing).

Essentially it’s a pressure sensitive LCD that you draw on, and only requires power to erase. See https://myboogieboard.com/ for more examples.

Anyone else think this is a good idea (if I could ever get a Framework, and find the time to work on this)?

That would be awesome!
If it just requires a little bit of pressure, then you could just use the back of a pen or even a toothpick to quickly make a note.

Sadly, putting tape on things is the extent of my miniature electronics skill set. I really want Framework to develop more pieces for the keyboard, but they’ve made no firm commitment to doing so.
