It came to my attention that the EU forced Apple to implement Wi-Fi Aware/Neighbor Awareness Network about a year ago. This allows Airdrop-like P2P connections between nearby devices. While the technology appears to be available on WiFi chips shipped by Framework, it’s not available on the Linux or Windows drivers which I think is a massive missed opportunity to solve the file-sharing problem.
Claude suggested that it’s actually quite possible to fork the mt76 drivers to support this, but SOL on Windows.
In the meantime I guess we have to live with not being able to find each other on LocalSend, or use slow connections over Iroh
