I have been following Framework since the very beginning, before Framework has released any hardware at all. Over the years, I’ve purchased many different laptops from other companies because of this single issue. When (if ever) will Framework release a camera module (and if necessary, bezel) that supports Windows Hello Face Recognition? That’s been one of my major pain points over the years as I’ve seen Framework grow. I can’t use most fingerprint readers because of my hyperhidrosis and Windows Hello has been a convenient way to provide strong biometric authentication to my device for access to company resources. Regardless of the hyperhidrosis issue, Windows Hello Face Recognition is also a common feature on many modern business class laptops, like Microsoft Surface and similar devices. It seems like a simple drop-in feature, just a new camera module (and bezel) needs to be designed with the necessary IR cameras and other features. Are there any technical reasons why this is impossible? I’d like some insight.

I did some research within the forum and it seems to be that they chose a fingerprint reader over the camera because of IR sensitivity issues.
However, if that is the case, how come the main camera of my Logitech Brio camera is not sensitive to IR? That’s because there’s two cameras, one high resolution camera with an IR filter, and one lower resolution IR camera. It’s a common configuration in many business class laptops. Why not take the same approach with Framework? Even if it costs 4x as much as the normal camera, I’d gladly pay for it.

I used to have a Surface device before and I had to switch from face to finger as well. Would be nice to support both options. Why not; it’s all modular. If I could vote, you’d have mine ![]()
